Amb. Rosette Nyirinkindi Katungye
Ambassador Rosette Nyirinkindi Katungye is a distinguished lawyer and diplomat with over 37 years of service in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uganda and the African Union (AU). Her career reflects deep expertise in international law, diplomacy, and human rights advocacy, with a proven track record of leadership at national, regional, and global levels.
She retired in March 2025 as a senior AU official, where she served in leadership and policy formulation roles that strengthened Africa’s presence on global human rights platforms. Previously, she was one of only two Directors at Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and later served as Deputy Permanent Representative of Uganda to the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva (2011–2015). In this capacity, she represented Uganda’s interests at the Human Rights Council and spearheaded Uganda’s delegations to the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), where she presented Uganda’s first five-year activity report.
Ambassador Rosette played a central role in establishing human rights desks in key Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), and was instrumental in working closely with FIDA-Uganda and other women’s organisations in securing Uganda’s ratification of the Maputo Protocol on the Rights of Women in Africa.
Ambassador Rosette has contributed through training women across the country, advisory committee work, advocacy, authorship of articles in the FIDA-Uganda magazines, and representation of women’s rights causes in international forums. She authored FIDA-Uganda’s first activity report to the ACHPR, provided mentorship and guidance to FIDA-Uganda delegates attending UN and AU meetings, and ensured women’s organisations were included in government delegations to global human rights forums.
Ambassador Rosette is widely respected for her integrity, collaborative leadership, and commitment to advancing women’s rights. Ambassador is a member of the Programs Committee of the FIDA-Uganda Board.
